Sean & Michael Hood

Sean and Michael are two brothers originally from Lake Macquarie who have shared a 
passion for bonsai for more than 25 years. What began as a casual curiosity has grown 
into a lifelong pursuit — one that combines creativity, patience, and a deep appreciation for 
nature’s quiet artistry.
Both work in the construction industry, so bonsai has become their perfect escape — a 
way to unwind, slow down, and shift focus from building on a large scale to shaping living 
art in miniature. Whether they’re styling refined exhibition trees, collecting yamadori from 
the bush, or putting the first wire on a two-year-old seedling, Sean and Michael approach 
every tree with enthusiasm and respect for its potential.
Despite the demands of work and raising young families, they make time for bonsai 
whenever they can — learning, experimenting, and sharing their knowledge with others in 
the community. Their friendly and practical approach reflects not only their skill, but also 
their belief that bonsai is for everyone — a journey to be enjoyed at every stage, from 
seedling to show tree
