About Kerry
Kerry has had a passion for growing plants from a very young age. Her first bonsai was a small flowering
azalea, planted into a bonsai pot after leaving work to have her first child. While her son thrived,
unfortunately the azalea did not.
Her interest in bonsai lay dormant for a time until a friend invited her to classes at a bonsai nursery in Terrey
Hills. From the very first lesson she was hooked, beginning a journey that has now spanned over 30 years.
She started with Megumi's Bonsai Kai under the guidance of Megumi Bennett, which later evolved into The
Bonsai Society of Sydney (BSS), where Kerry is now a Life Member.
In 2005, BSS hosted the 18th AABC Convention featuring Masahiko Kimura as the headline demonstrator.
Kerry chaired the convention and had the privilege of spending time accompanying Mr Kimura during his
visit to Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
After returning from two years in southern China, where she and her husband David worked on an AusAid
project, they settled on a small farm near Gloucester. Kerry continued travelling to Sydney for BSS meetings
before eventually establishing the Gloucester Bonsai Workshop. Looking for new challenges, she joined the
Newcastle Bonsai Society three years ago and has thoroughly enjoyed being an active member ever since.
